Position Overview

The Manager is responsible to lead the Hardware Engineering team consisting of Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Validation resources. The Manager has responsibility for both people management (development, coaching) and project escalation for those projects in his/her domain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide team leadership and escalation support.
  • Prepare local team departmental budgets and manage spending to budget.
  • Ensure hardware engineers on the team deliver core and series development projects while meeting quality, cost, and timing targets. 
  • Drive reuse of building block designs and product architectures in alignment with electrical architecture team.
  • Seek methods to improve electrical engineering efficiency and effectiveness including definition and tracking of KPI targets.
  • Develop and execute local department strategy in accordance with the global Hardware department strategy.
  • Ensure that programs are properly resourced (both staffing and skills required) with respect to hardware activities.
  • Ensure the team is trained and skilled in using common methodology, tools, and processes. 
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, reward and disciplinary actions, and performance appraisals of direct reports.
  • Participates in continuous improvement and lessons learned efforts for products, tools, processes and programs.
  • Support root cause analysis of failures found during development process or in production.
  • Provides technical leadership in directing the efforts of local hardware team in development and release of all relevant hardware engineering deliverables in compliance with the product development process and customer expectations.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external departments.
  • Ensures compliance to Company procedures (e.g. GPEP processes and work instructions) and applicable standards (e.g. ISO/TS 16949, ISO/IEC TR 15504, ISO 26262, etc).


  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of product development engineering practices in hardware engineering field.
  • Knowledge of the application and delivery of advanced electronic systems into the automotive industry.
  • Understanding of new technologies and cutting-edge methods in automotive electronic design.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities in a teamwork setting.
  • Working knowledge in structured engineering approach.
  • Working knowledge in risk management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Product Development Life Cycle
  • Strong project management and tracking skills.
  • Good team and people skills, including interpersonal skills that are required to lead, mentor, communicate, and build the technical capabilities of a cross-functional and cross- cultural organization.
  • Able to work effectively in a global environment.
  • Able to lead and motivate a diverse team of electrical and mechanical engineers.
  • Able to represent technical topics internally and externally.
  • Expert communication skills.
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be needed.
  • Self-starter who can work in a fast paced and multifaceted environment.
  • Strong and effective decision-making skills.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering Electrical/Computer Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated technical experience 
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in a Managerial role of a technical team is required.

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Knowledge of MS Office package.
  • Knowledge of analysis and engineering tools (i.e. requirement, change and configuration management tools, document control and archiving tools, modelling and analysis tools, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of English (verbal and written)
