Mission of the Position


The eCAD Engineer will be part of development projects for Power Inverters for Electrical Vehicles, and responsible for the creation of Printed Circuit Board and all associated activities working with our engineers and design team. The engineer will develop PCBAs using all principals including component placement, EMC principles, component constraints, and PCB design standards.


As an Intermediate level engineer, the engineer will work independently with limited supervision to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using knowledge and judgement to make adaptations and modifications. 


As a Senior Engineer, the engineer will independently perform a wide variety of complex/advanced engineering work to include planning, designing, and carrying out work assignments, often serving as a technical authority of the department with little to no supervision.  The engineer will mentor and guide less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities


  • General:
    •     Work in fast-paced environment to design and develop high voltage power electronics PCBAs for automotive environment.
  • Requirement Management:
    •     Work with the Electrical Engineering team and Mechanical Engineering team to meet customer and design specifications.
  • Engineering Design:
    •     Develop Electrical Schematic capture using ECAD tools.
    •     Develop schematic symbols and PCB footprints (component library).
    •     Design and verification of multilayers PCBs.
    •     PCB Layout component placement following Design Standards. 
    •     Design and create STP models for the electronic components such as ICs, Discrete components,
    •     SBC’s, etc., and maintain the component library.
    •     Development of component libraries for electronic components. 
    •     Support prototype builds by creating assembly instructions and production launch.
  • Process Maturity:
    •     To Develop PCB packaging for production (Gerber, Drill File, Test Points, etc) from concept to production phase.
  • Customer & Supplier Communication:
    •     To work with suppliers of PCB Assembly for Improvement and problem solution of the manufacturing of the product.
    •     To work with Magna counterparts across the globe through the development of the PCBA layout.

Requirements and Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Intermediate level ; 3-5 years of experience OR Senior level; 7+ years of professional eCAD work experience in automotive or consumer product designs.
  • Experience in a cross functional Teamwork environment.
  • Development with multiple PCBs solutions.
  • Ability to follow internal work products from team members (requirements based on development Process).
  • Technical PCB design skills using Altium Nexus Design toolset, knowledge of schematic capture, placement, routing, auto-router, constraint manager, and library tools management.
  • Knowledge of PCB, processors, integrated circuits, passive components, and computer HW and SW toolset.
  • Knowledge or experience with Analog, Digital, Power and mixed technology.
  • Experience with multilayers PCBA products.
  • Development and creation of Gerber and ODB++ formats.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards such as IPC6012 and 6013.
  • Experience with EMC requirements and strategies for PCBA design.
  • Experience with component placement and width trace selection based on current requirements.
  • Process Maturity; experience with PCB Manufacturing process. 
  • Have previously brought a product from concept to mass production stage. Preferably on a vehicle product.
  • Customer & Supplier Communication; experience working with different sites across the globe. 


Highly Desired Skills


  • Experience with Altium Nexus and all associated toolset, and/or other eCAD SW tools (Mentor Graphics, ORCAD, etc).
  • PCB layout constraints.
  • Teamwork experience.

Work Environment


Office environment; 5% travel required.


While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
