Mission of the Position


This position is responsible for the detailed design of powertrain housing sub-systems for new customer and/or internal product developments, following the defined product concept. Works closely with Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, OEM Engineering, and the internal cross functional engineering team.

Key Responsibilities


  • Design and development of housing sub-system for new and existing powertrain, and driveline products.
  • Ensure cascaded system requirements as well as customer and internal requirements are met. 
  • Utilizes and/or leverages computer aided engineering (CAE) methodologies and results to drive the design of the sub-system.
  • Responsible for on time design release of the sub-system, throughout the product development cycle, including, but not limited to acquisition, serial development, and production support.
  • Supports the integration of the sub-system into Driveline Systems products.
  • Tracks design status, reports progress, and escalates issues/delays to project development team.
  • Assumes the role of Subject Matter Expert(SME) for castings and is responsible for creation and maintenance of standards, guidelines, and best practices for assigned component.
  • Support problem resolution activities for housing sub-system as well as other cast components.  Ensure lessons learned are properly documented and utilized in future designs.
  • Responsible to drive cost-down, DFM/DFA, and standardization efforts for complete powertrain housing sub-system.

Requirements and Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required. 
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years related work experience required; experience in powertrain developments (4WD, AWD, and electrification product lines) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in design and manufacturing of high pressure die cast housings.  Some experience with alternate casting methods (Sand, Lost Foam, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with moldflow and solidification analysis software (Magmasoft or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge required.
  • Some 3D CAD(NX or CATIA) software experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively with internal and external contacts, with a high degree of diplomacy, judgement, and possesses the ability to effectively influence persons in all types of positions.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • High level of analytical ability, understanding of engineering theory, and principles of design.

Work Environment


Office environment; 20% travel required. 

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
