Role Summary

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, applying standard engineering principles and analytical techniques to the design and development of the manufacturing processes to ensure continuous improvement efforts and cost reduction activities exceeding the expectations of Magna New Mobility, the customer, and Magna International Inc.  Also responsible for overseeing all activities related to supporting technical and manufacturing solutions; including engineering and design to achieve goals and objectives relating to research and development, organizational projects and services for continuous improvement and risk reduction. This role will provide guidance and mentorship to less experience engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all engineering departmental objectives and activities participated in at MNM are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter and Magna Corporate Constitution.
  • Responsible for coordination of major engineering projects as assigned and for the on-time and in budget completion of all deliverables for these projects.
  • Support the program manager as required to ensure a successful launch of assigned programs: Responsible for engineering solutions to the manufacturing process, synchronous manufacturing, continuous improvement techniques.
  • Oversee facility projects schedules and completion of these projects according to specific deadlines and project timelines. 
  • Provide engineering & maintenance expertise for projects progressing through the manufacturing process for plant layout, process improvement, part quality improvement, ergonomic improvement, and cost reductions.
  • Mentor and guide engineering team as required.
  • Evaluate product design proposals including PTR's and PTR walks to evaluate engineering change feasibility and participate in APQP & PDP events.
  • Develop and maintain accurate labor standards and line balancing as required.
     

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • A university degree in engineering, technologist diploma in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering, or 10 + years engineering related experience in an automotive JIT, Tier 1 manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of both.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes/lean manufacturing concepts, methods and principles.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office Applications:  Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes/lean manufacturing concepts, methods, and principles.
  • Good working knowledge of core tools and customer specific requirements or can learn these requirements within the specified time frame. 
  • Good understanding of time and motion studies is required, along with experience in understanding of capital and expense budgets; understanding of operational planning with strong project management skills to manage/co-ordinate extensive internal and external project resources.
  • Experience leading others is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SPC and CAD preferred.
