Position Overview

The Senior Manager Strategy and Portfolio Management position will support on the coordination and alignment of the product groups portfolio evaluation. This role will take a lead in creating/redefining Magna’s process for our product portfolio assessment and, in addition, will be an integral part of the development on a global Magna technology road map for the Car of the Future and Factory of the Future in alignment with the Magna Product Groups. Explore and find opportunities for new product lines with system integration and functional integration characteristics. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent to ensure the continuation of the strategy activities. 
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter to all employees. 
  • Ensure support of the growing business is met with continuous development of bench strength. 
  • Develop and support One Team – One voice culture across all areas of Strategy and Systems Integration. 
  • Maintain a complete understanding of Magna’s existing products portfolio and manufacturing processes for the Car of the Future and Factory of the Future. 
  • Maintain awareness of Magna Corporate and group technology needs, using these to search for technologies of relevance. 
  • Support special programs initiate by CEO and CSMO. 
  • Update reports to support Corporate R&D strategy. 
  • Keep various Magna organizations and Magna R&D team abreast of program developments. 
  • Develop strategic relationships with key technical representatives at the OEMs. 
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned 

 

Strategy & Portfolio Management 

  • Identify relevant System Level product opportunities & market trends with respect to the Car of the Future growth areas. 
  • Identify the current state and the desired future state along with the potential field of actions.  
  • Develop and track a clear action plan for the identified field of actions. 
  • Support Product groups in the development of the Product group strategy (on groups request).  
  • Develop with the product groups the connection between Product strategy and Group strategy.  
  • Connect the product group strategy with the strategic action plans reported in the quarterly reviews. 
  • Develop a System and Portfolio Strategy Process.  
  • Use such process as an evaluation process to determine Magna’s entry opportunities and strategy into new Systems. 
  • Use the process to develop and define a long-term (2 cycles) product strategy linked with to the “Car of the Future” 
  • Develop Magna strategic position for Corporate R&D projects (Technical USP, key technologies, and relevant Business)  
  • Develop a system of metrics to determine current’s position vs future desired position 
  • Search for potential partners to close the desired gaps (Product, Technology Competence) 
  • Search for potential partners or acquisitions to fulfil identified needs  
  • Support specific mergers and acquisitions processes to achieve the strategic plan   
  • Connect strategies with Magna Corporate R&D and Magna Groups strategies 
  • Lead with 3rd parties or internal departments Competitor Intelligence (CI) and Market Intelligence (MI) Studies 
  • Strengthen sales during project acquisitions regarding product functions and new technologies 
  • Support sales in the business development efforts during project acquisitions in all aspects related to product functions and new technologies  
  • Be an expert on competitive force and industry structure analysis 
  • Be knowledgeable about market research studies (including quantitative and qualitative analysis) 
  • Be an expert on business model generation 
  • Be an expert on value proposition design 
  • Be an expert on testing business ideas 

Qualifications

  • 10+ year of experience in Electronic & Software Development in a management role 
  • or 10 years of automotive industry experience
  • or 10 years of experience in a technical/engineering capacity 
  • Management experience in technical, sales and business development preferably in the product or R&D segment of the automotive industry. 
  • Technical aptitude to understand the global automotive engineering product portfolio. 

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or a “Hard” Science field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Chemistry) with exceptional qualifications and experience in research or development (product, material or process); 
  • MBA 

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Structural working approach for strategic development  
  • Excellent presentation, communication, influencing, project planning and negotiation skills 
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. 

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct a normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Requires 30% travel (International and Domestic)
