Position Overview

The Senior Technical Specialist will research, analyze and report user experience related technology trends in the automotive industry. The  position responsibility includes (but is not limited to) comprehensive analysis of the technology trends, identifying applicable strategies, and reviewing the impacts within the automotive industry and Magna. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand, identify, and investigate state-of-the-art technologies that can enhance user experience, focusing on connectivity solutions combining automotive engineering and IoT (Internet of Things).  
  • Investigate strategies of auto-manufacturers with respect to business models through digital transformation and differentiations on features & functions of vehicle products.
  • Research new technologies, features & functions, use cases, and business models introduced by new entrants, IT companies, start-ups, and traditional automotive manufacturers.
  • Research emerging demands related to improved user experience as vehicle products transition to CAEVs (Connected Automated Electric Vehicles): demands from end-consumers, MaaS providers, and other transportation companies such as delivery providers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on user experience technology, providing clear, precise trends and timely information.
  • Interpret and analyze emerging industry-wide trends and its impact to the greatest extent possible.
  • Research, prepare, and present overview summaries of the trends and topic-specific analyses to facilitate understanding of the impact on automotive product, with special emphasis on relevance to Magna operating units. 
  • Work with globally located colleagues in R&D and Core Product Managers in Magna business units to facilitate technology & product development projects. 
  • Support Corporate Engineering R&D and Corporate Marketing with topic-specific consultation.


  • Ability to provide a high level of professionalism to support the Senior Management Team 
  • Ability to work in a global team-based environment 
  • Highly analytical thinker to analyze wide-ranged data/information from various sources 
  • Ability to summarize complicated, detailed information in a concise, understandable format 
  • Self-motivated to complete assignments with ability to independently manage projects 

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field (Master’s Degree or PhD in communication technology, electric/electronic engineering, or software engineering is preferred)5+ years’ experience on connectivity solution, in-vehicle infotainment application, cloud service, telematics, software defined car, and/or service-oriented architecture
  • Experience on automotive applications in IT company or UX/UI supplier is preferred
  • Experience on manufacturing and traditional automotive engineering such as powertrain, chassis, and body will NOT be considered as relevant experience
  • Proven work record in the area that requires comprehensive understanding about automotive technology and markets is a plus 

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with high level skills on PowerPoint and Excel 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  
  • Ability to effectively work within a team  

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Must be able to travel both domestic and international (less than 20% travel) 
  • Must be able to accommodate a normal amount of sitting or standing and moving around an office environment, and able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.  Vision abilities required by this position include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
