Position Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for sales of automotive products while assuring attention to general sales tasks and working with OEM purchasing and other key program personnel. Develops multi-level internal and external contacts to provide customer support for area of responsibility. The account manager also consults with the application teams in the identification and closure of commercial issues with the objective of increasing the market share, optimizing profitability, and maintaining the positive perception of Magna Mirrors as a world-class supplier.

Key Functions & Responsibilities

Work is highly technical and complex in character and requires a broad business knowledge. Requires independent problem solving and decision making with only very broad direction given on assignments. Promoting Magna Mirrors to the customer and aligning customer communications with Magna Mirrors policies, philosophy, structure, capabilities, business plans, and strategy. Exercises wide latitude in determining specific project objectives and making decisions that have a major impact on the organization's long-term success. 

  • Sells existing products and introduces new products and technology concepts to customers. Interfaces with internal and external contacts regarding product specifications, cost/price, timing, etc.
  • Identifies and evaluates new business opportunities. Performs market research as necessary. Assists internal engineering groups in developing cost information necessary to determine new product pricing. 
  • Takes into consideration customer direction; market demand; competitor direction; Magna Mirrors competitive position; and corporate and group strategy while engaging the customer in resolution of issues and/or the exploration of new opportunities.
  • Staying vigilant of potential new business opportunities. Remaining knowledgeable of customers business strategy, participates in the assessment of validity and relevance of opportunities, and appropriately communicates information and opportunities within Magna Mirrors.
  • Responds to commercial information requests from Engineering. Attends production runs with manufacturing representatives, as required. Responds to tooling questions, such as timing and cost. Processes quotes and follows up on deliveries, as required.
  • Completes tasks and resolves issues to ensure compliance to program objectives and commercial targets.
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation of sales and marketing deliverables as established, per the product delivery process. Ensures timely flow of business documents between the customer and Magna Mirrors. Ensures the documentation of key positions and agreements and that documented agreements meet finance guidelines and requirements. 
  • Assists in the development and negotiation of program pricing and responds to internal, corporate, and customer pricing requests. Generally, under the guidance and parameters set by senior sales personnel and application team management: reviews and submits quotes and other commercially related correspondence to the customer, provides target pricing, responds to quotation feedback.
  • Drives closure on commercial issues.
  • Regularly visits manufacturing divisions.
  • Travel as required, including international.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience. 
  • 3-5 years experience in automotive sales, program management, or engineering management.
  • Knowledge of customer, product, and supply base. Experience working directly with OEMs is preferred. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other database applications). 
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Product knowledge/experience with inside mirrors, outside mirrors, door handles, tailgate handles, and liftgate handles is helpful.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of this job is performed in a standard office environment with minimal risk or harmful elements. 
  • Utilizing computer and or telephone excessively.
  • Job requires dealing with confidential and sensitive information and situations. 
  • Occasional overnight travel within North America.
  • Job requires handling of stressful situations.
