Responsible for the design and development of application (controls) software for driveline electronic control systems and components. Working from broad specifications, not only performs, but is responsible for guiding engineering activities. Independently plans, designs and carries out work assignments.

  • Design, develop, and drive problem resolution of model-based code - modeling in Simulink and or Targetlink for new and existing electronic controls systems and components for powertrain products.
  • Responsible for cascade of specifications from system to components and ensuring delivery of product designs to the specifications.
  • Develops software requirements specifications and software functional specifications, including: performing requirement analysis, software architecture design and optimization, data structure design, and low level software requirement development.
  • Performs coding, unit testing, debugging and modifying of complex controls systems software to ensure project objectives and schedules are met. 
  • Coordinates and participates in software design reviews and code reviews. 
  • Works closely with a team of other highly skilled engineering professionals to solve cross functional design issues and deliver top quality products to the end user. 
  • Ensure the proper development process is followed and detailed documentation of the software development/software program releases are maintained in accordance     with Magna Powertrain’s defined process. 
  • Adheres to control software Product/System Practices and Procedures as defined.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (TS 16949).
  • Maintains working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna’s Charter and Constitution.
  • Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF). 
  • Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties of self are performed in a safe manner.

  • Knowledge of automotive application software development using modeling tools (Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and dSPACE TargetLink/DD).
  • Knowledge of software development languages (C).
  • Knowledge of Vector CAN tools (CANanalyzer, CANoe, CANape) for data logging and debugging the issues.
  • High level of analytical ability, understand of engineering theory, and principles of design.
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering required (Electrical, Software, Controls Engineering or similar strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years of application software development experience using modeling tools (Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and or dSPACE TargetLink/DD) required.
  • Experience with automatic code generation (DSpace Targetlink, Embedded Coder or similar) highly preferred.
  • Experience with Vector CAN tools (CANanalyzer, CANoe, CANape) for data logging and debugging the issues highly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in software development languages (C) required.

Office environment; 10% Travel required.

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.
