About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Manager, Workers' Compensation to join our Magna International Team.  As the Claims Manager, Workers' Compensation you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims management, continuous improvement initiatives, training, and relationship management within our organization.

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a passion for developing and building a national workers' compensation claims management program that will further improve effective claims management at Magna. 

 

*Job location can be based out of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Iowa, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Missouri, and Alabama.*

Your Responsibilities

Workers’ Compensation Program

  • Develop, guide and mentor Workers' Compensation Claims Coordinators that ensure effective claims management.
  • Perform audits on plant’s Claims Management Process and score performance on established gold-standard criteria.
  • Engage Senior Leadership by providing monthly, quarterly, and annual Workers’ Compensation KPI’s and data trends.
  • Analyze workers' compensation history and needs of plants, evaluating best practices, and recommending changes and/or new programs where appropriate.
  • Launch and manage Workers' Compensation Improvement Programs for low performing plants. 
  • Generate monthly Loss Reports from third party Administrator’s data, sorted by policy period and Magna plants.
  • Generate monthly Retrospective Adjustment Forecasting for the current workers’ compensation policy period.
  • Present U.S. workers’ compensation data trends at internal Health & Safety Conferences and monthly department meetings. 
  • Build effective processes in partnership with Magna’s third-party Workers’ Compensation Claims Administrator and Internal Risk Management to develop a holistic workers’ compensation approach for Magna.
  • Provide Plant Claims Coordinators with training on third party Administrator’s database for loss reporting and loss report generation (Gallagher Bassett databases are RisxFacs and Luminos).
  • Ensure delivery of claims management services to plants in accordance with Magna’s contract with Gallagher Bassett Services.
  • Provide trend analysis and statistical reports using the Claims Management Application on the Intelex software platform.  

 

Claims Management

  • Determine financial adequacy, authorize reserve, and provide settlement recommendations.
  • Conduct interviews and select Claims Adjusters and Defense Counsel.
  • Review and provide direction for pending workers’ compensation claims.
  • Demonstrate expertise in workers’ compensation statutes in jurisdictions where Magna locations operate.
  • Conduct Claim Reviews (frequency up to 4 times per calendar year / approximating 50+ claim reviews per calendar year) with plants and third-party Administrator Team.
  • Interact with Defense Attorneys for management of active litigation (establish defense strategy, determine cases for resolution versus hearing, participate in negotiations, revise strategy based upon case activity, etc.)
  • Actively monitor and manage high-cost workers’ compensation claims or as requested by plants.
  • Review and revise Special Handling Instructions for third-party Administrators or Carriers.
  • Manage and forecast deductible breach exposure to ensure timely notification to Magna plants, Corporate Risk Management, and the Corporate Health & Safety Team.
  • Review newly filed worker's compensation claims daily and follow up as needed.
  • Review prior week’s workers’ compensation financial activity weekly to ensure adequacy, appropriateness, and compliance with Special Handling Instructions.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e., Medical, Legal, etc.).
  • 7+ years of experience in workers' compensation claims management.
  • Strong understanding of workers’ compensation statutes and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in navigating databases and conducting data analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience in developing effective training and presentations.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Previous Manufacturing experience
