Role Summary
Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the EV Powertrain discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible to lead the engineering activities relating to the design and development of the vehicle powertrain system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibility
Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) within the EV Powertrain
• Support the creation of technical specifications in ALM or similar system
• Support the creation of regulation of FMVSS, CARB, CAFÉ, Zero-Emission Certification
• Contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices
• Contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase
• Contribute to the development using 6 Sigma methodology
• Propose continuous improvement opportunities, qualifications, tools, and processes
Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting
Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
• Support the project team(s) to achieve objectives on performance, cost, and timing
• Support external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
• Support work development packages assigned to third parties
• Confirm OEM and magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable
• Confirm OEM and magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable
• Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting
• Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sites
• Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sites
• Responsible for designs capable of meeting the serial production tact, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ergo targets
• Responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targets
• Support the building of the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) to ensure it comprehends all project targets and is complete
• Support the building of the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure that it comprehends all product risks and product usage cases
Project Related Interface
Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration
• Support global development touchpoint and milestone meetings
• Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
• Collaborate with the design studio to assure product appearance harmony
• Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
• Collaborate with the Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice sharing
• Collaborate with the other project GTAs

• Education– BSME
• Experience - 2+ years Powertrain (Electric Machine) development
• Experience in – 1+ years in Thermal management and performance
• Experience – 1+ years in High Voltage development
• Experience in Complete Vehicle development and manufacture
• Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams
• Experience in launching a complete vehicle
• Experience in design release and testing of components and assemblies
• Experience in cycle performance to reliability and confidence targets
• Experience in electro-mechanical controls and sensor packaging
• Experience in ISO 26262 / ASIL Risk Class
• Familiar with ASPICE
Additional Information
• Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
• Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
• Six Sigma certification preferred
• Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)
