About the Role

The Global Engineering IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, implementation, and management of IT systems and solutions for the Global Engineering divisions. This role involves leading a team of IT professionals to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of IT infrastructure, applications, and support services within the engineering division. Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in computer operations (hardware, software, and communications – phones, WAN, internet, etc.). This would also include budgeting and implementing systems which safeguard the company’s assets.

Your Responsibilities

⎯ Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the engineering department's objectives and overall organizational goals.
⎯ Work with management and other division and group IT managers to determine strategic direction. Collaborate with leaders across the organization, including engineering, operations, and IT department, to identify and address IT-related needs and opportunities.
⎯ Plan and develop policies, procedures, and work plans for carrying out computer operations.
⎯ Meet with subordinates to discuss progress of work, resolve problems, and ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
⎯ Adjust hours of work, priorities, and staff assignments to ensure efficient operation, based on workload.
⎯ Build and manage a high-performing IT team, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
⎯ Consult with software and hardware vendors and other establishment workers to solve problems impeding computer processing.
⎯ Meet with users to determine quality of service and identify needs.
⎯ Meet with management or others to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users.
⎯ Evaluate new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing software and hardware.
⎯ Evaluate proposed data processing projects to assess adequacy of existing hardware and recommend purchase of equipment.
⎯ Develop budget and monitor expenditures.
⎯ Direct and coordinate activities of office application software training.
⎯ Design and implement system backup strategy.
⎯ Design system security for servers and workstations.
⎯ Design and implement hardware maintenance schedules.

⎯ Assist end users with system problems.
⎯ Maintain software licensing documentation and document all hardware and software purchases including serial numbers and report to Accounting Department.
⎯ Inventory hardware biannually.
⎯ Represent the department during audits and provide documentation confirming compliance to processes and procedures.
⎯ Develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures for information technology systems.
⎯ Sets direction for the department, ensuring preparation for the future.
⎯ Oversees adherence to security standards set by Magna Global IT.
⎯ Manages compliance to audit controls standards.
⎯ Develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan for all mission critical systems.
⎯ Provides for adherence to relevant standards as they relate to Mafact, IATF, TiSAX, ISO27001, etc.
⎯ Works with OT personnel to develop good security protocols that both protect the OT environment and position the division to move forward with Industry 4.0 initiatives.
⎯ Provides for proper documentation of change management.
⎯ Keeps management updated on all outstanding projects and timing for each.
⎯ Oversees set-up and support of all users on all systems with the highest priority to security given.
⎯ Investigates and researches new technology for the benefit of the division.
⎯ Through classroom training, self-training and computer based training, continuously improves levels of knowledge and competency with IT systems and products utilized by the division.
⎯ Promotes training for department team members to help maintain a high level of expertise for all.
⎯ Works with the IT team to document all processes and procedures for the department.
⎯ Perform additional duties as assigned.
⎯ Act with honesty and integrity, and make ethical business choices in accordance with Magna’s Compliance Policies and Procedures.

Your preferred qualifications

Education – Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Education - Preferred: Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Years of Experience: Minimum seven to ten (7-10) years of related experience required
Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience, preferred
Licenses and Certifications: None

Other Skills/Experience -Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, software development lifecycle, cybersecurity, and emerging IT trends
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and people management abilities
  • Skills and industrial experience in database and web architecture design and implementation, MS SQL and other programming language are essential.
  • Possess skills and industrial experience in CAD/CAE, Manufacturing Process, CAD data format conversion, exchange, and CAD viewing technology.
  • Possess skills and industrial experience in PDM/PLM and ERP.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve IT-related issues efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Other Skills/Experience -Preferred: 

  • Automotive industrial experience
