Mission of the Position
Works with the inverter Engineering eDrive Systems electrification group assisting with projects on all different levels throughout the co-op program. The student will assist the inverter Design Engineers with the design, development, analysis, and testing of electric motors for electric traction drives (voltages < 1000V, I < 750A) for eDrive applications.
Team Summary:
A dynamic team that pushes boundaries, innovates, and is passionate about being part of the transformation from traditional Powertrain to eMobility. The team works together to uphold a professional, team based collaborative project culture and standards. The inverter Engineering team will be a part of development projects for electric drive system for both the BEV vehicles and hybrid ones. The team of engineers are responsible for the detailed design and application of inverter system for the EV propulsion. They develop new or modify existing products for new customer and/or internal product developments, following the defined product concept for eDrive products.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to design and development of eDrive architecture by understanding system requirements and subsystem requirements related to the inverter system from both external and internal sources.
- Perform inverter system requirements analysis and support modeling to define the optimum inverter system design.
- Carry out competitor analysis (benchmarking) of different inverter system solutions in the transportation market.
- Expected Learning Outcomes:
- Learn about Engineering principals and Magna culture and apply classroom knowledge to a practical, real life application.
- Be an active contributor to the eDS group to advance the progress of Magna’s electrified products.
- Advance the knowledge of the automotive industry, specifically electrified powertrains, and driveline components.
- Learn about the detailed design and development of inverter system technologies for eDrive applications.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Enrolled in an engineering program with an accredited school.
- Preferably working towards or has a Bachelor of Science in the field of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Some level of analytical ability and understanding of engineering theory and principles of design.
- Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced, team environment and perform assigned tasks related to the electrification of automobiles.
- Preferably have a good understanding of electromagnetic principles.
Work Environment
Office environment; minimum travel required.
While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
