About the Role

Reporting to the Global Director, External Communications & Public Relations, the Manager, External Communications and Public Relations will work collaboratively across the Communications Team and Magna to execute globally integrated, strategic, modern, and impactful communication programs aligning with the organization’s business objectives and priorities. 


A Communications professional with experience in reaching external stakeholders and a mindset to bring industry-leading communications principles and methodologies to Magna, is highly desired. The ideal candidate will have a mix of skills and experience that include a deep understanding and demonstrated success with creating core narratives, corporate media relations, executive exposure, crisis communications and content strategies. 

Your Responsibilities

  • Manage external communications activities including:
    • Execute daily media relations activities and monitoring 
    • Coordinate PR-related events (press conferences, media round tables, etc.)  
    • Mine for stories and media pitching 
    • Support rapid response communications, including crisis situations  
    • Support spokesperson participation including speechwriting, scripts, Q&As and presentations for speaking engagements
  • Drive integration and alignment throughout the organization while using key metrics to continuously improve engagement, performance, and effectiveness. 
  • Cultivate close relationships with key business and Trade Journalists and Influencers and seek ongoing media opportunities for Magna and its business units 
  • Manage and work strategically with external agency partners and vendors

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Communications or Public Relations
  • 5-8+ years of relevant work experience or combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with C-level Executives and across a matrixed organization
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional writing ability 
  • Strong track record of successfully developing and implementing impactful communications programs to drive engagement 
  • Results oriented, strong sense of urgency, collaborative, proactive and flexible
  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines

Your preferred qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Digital/social media savvy
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Managerial experience
