Mission of the Position:


Develop and implement commodity strategies for all divisions within Magna Powertrain North America in the assigned commodities.

Key Responsibilites:


•   In coordination with the Global Lead, develop and implement commodity strategies in assigned commodities
    (technology, footprint, quality, economics, supply base reduction / consolidation, etc.).
•   Lead the qualification & development of new suppliers and the exit of outgoing suppliers.
•   In coordination with Operational Purchasing, develop and execute divisional cost savings initiatives & risk
    mitigation strategies on existing business to achieve annual savings budgets.
•   Utilize a total cost approach to optimizing piece prices for new and existing business in the assigned
    commodities.  Tactics to include program bundling, global sourcing & leverage, dual sourcing, tariff & USMCA
    duty mitigation, specification / tolerance / material changes, process optimization, VAVE, logistics &
    packaging optimization, payment term improvement.
•   Minimize collective risk thru favourable raw material, currency adjustment mechanisms.
•   Assist MPT divisions in establishing Nomination Letters and supplier giveback terms.
•   Become expert in your defined space, able to understand and communicate micro and macroeconomic
    influences and develop strategies to either mitigate or benefit.  Able to fully understand and communicate
    the complete cost structure of each supplier, including capital investment & its amortization, utilization
    rates, spare capacity, incoming raw material, etc.
•   Able to construct complex excel models for estimating and simulating any business issue.
•   Manage the relationship with each supplier thru regular business & roadmap reviews and disciplined contract
    management (NDA, Terms & Conditions, Nominations Letters, Settlement Agreements, etc.).
•   Work in a cross functional team in support of the assigned commodities, including Program Management,
    Engineering, Production Control and Logistics, Supplier Quality Development and Quality departments.
•   Keep senior MPT management informed of critical issues through clear and concise communications.
•   Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
•   Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:


•   Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, business, or related discipline
•   7-10 years' progressive experience in Purchasing field preferably in an automotive / manufacturing
•   Commodities including but not limited to; Assigned Commodity
•   Must be very familiar with QS9000, TS16949, and ISO14001 procedures. 
•   Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 20% of the time
