Role Summary

  • The Assembly Tooling Specialist is responsible for the overseeing and directing of tooling and maintenance team members and the coordinating of activities related to assembly equipment operations while ensuring that safety criteria are met. 
  • The Assembly Tooling Specialist also leads the effort to ensure dimensional quality and system OEE is met and maintained. The Tooling Leader is also responsible for providing guidance and training to less experienced individuals in the tooling and maintenance departments. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support greenfield facilities when there may not be a Tooling Leader onboarded yet.
  • Support new program launches to help ensure that the tooling design will be robust and minimize quality and or downtime issues.
  • Assist divisions with tooling support during launch phases and during times of duress.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling related issues in the plant.
  • Assist to coordinate downtime and cycle time improvements.
  • Assist direct the process and system layout for new programs.
  • Aid with downtime troubleshooting on the equipment.
  • Attend meetings where applicable, both virtual and/or in person.
  • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Cosma rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Act on behalf of Assistant / Department Leader in their absence.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with engineering, quality assurance, production, and control support groups.
  • Supervises an average of 5 - 15 employees in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter as well as Cosma/Magna policies and procedures. 
  • Provides instruction, guidance, and leadership to employees by assisting in solving day to day problems.
  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Cosma Expectations and Cosma’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter
  • Perform other duties as designated.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum 10 years of work related experience.
Experience from working at a Machine Integrator in addition to having had a maintenance support role in a Manufacturing Plant would be an asset. 
Ability to understand mechanical drawings.
Knowledge of GD&T, automated equipment, and welding.
Experience with Robotic programming and PLC programming is preferred.
Certificate of Qualification in a recognized trade preferred

  • Able to travel to divisions on a regular basis with some long term assignments
  • Able to work shift work.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)

  • As with Safety, Security is everyone’s responsibility and Cosma requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
