Mission of the Position

 

The Mechanical Test Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of the mechanical durability and functional DVP&R process of new customer and/or internal product developments for electric drive systems (electric motor with gearbox and high traction inverter). The Engineer works closely with the internal cross functional engineering team, and OEM Engineering. The Engineer will be responsible for deriving the Mechanical Durability and Functional test items from the architectural Statement of Work, and related System Component Requirements, link said test items in the Requirements Management Tool, and update them as they are executed.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop Mechanical Durability and Functional DVPs for new products and product changes to validate product application requirements.  
  • Develop test schedules for Mechanical Durability and Functional DVPs in conjunction with the Test Bench Services group.
  • Provide supporting information to Powertrain Test Manager and Engineering Project Manager to enable proper quotation of established DVPs.
  • Execute Mechanical Durability and Functional DVPs utilizing resources from supporting internal engineering groups such as Durability/Reliability, Test Bench Services, Noise/Vibration/Harshness, Vehicle Verification, and Software & HiL Test.
  • Provide written and verbal communication of testing status and results to internal and external customers. Escalates issues/delays to project development and project management team.
  • Develop and improve testing standards and guidelines.
  • Write and review test procedures and test reports.
  • Keep abreast of new technology trends, resource trends and market demand for new products/projects
  • Review and understand key customer requirements as they relate to key product attributes, durability, and reliability.
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects, keeping track of daily progress.

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or similar.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years related work experience.  Experience in testing powertrain systems required. High voltage system experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with DVP&R process, DFMEA process, test procedure development, and report writing required.
  • Strong product development, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as teamwork skills.
     

Work Environment

 

Office environment; 10% travel required. 

 

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
