Our Mechatronics Global Engineering Group is looking for an experienced Product Assurance Engineer to support our Electronics Engineering Team.


The Product Assurance Engineer leads the functional safety activities for serial production programs, to assist the program teams in delivering the work products of the safety case in compliance with ISO 26262.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tailors the safety case of the program in collaboration with the functional safety manager and the program Lead Systems Engineer.
  • Provides guidance and support to the program team in the development of their work products per the safety case in compliance with ISO 26262.
  • Supports the functional safety manager in the development of the Development Interface Agreement (DIA) with the customer.
  • Develops and owns the functional safety program plan in collaboration with the program manager.
  • Provides guidance to the program teams in the usage of ME’s functional safety processes, templates, and guidelines as stated in GPEP.
  • Supports the SW tools qualification process in support of the program in collaboration with the Quality team.
  • Provides coaching to the program team in the interpretation of the relevant clauses of ISO 26262
  • Tracks the program’s functional safety issues and drives for their closure.
  • Supports the functional managers with the verifications reviews of the work products per GPEP and ISO 26262.
  • Supports the functional safety manager in carrying out the Confirmation Measures per ISO 26262 (Confirmation Reviews, Safety Audit, and Safety Assessment)
  • Provides coaching to the program’s suppliers in the area of functional safety; solicits support from the functional manager in this area as necessary.
  • Provides assessment of the program status in terms of functional safety to the department head.
  • Participates in Phase Reviews and Gate Reviews.
  • Establish Communication and exchange of information with engineering teams.
  • Adherence of all relevant company procedures, process models and systems.
  • Signature policy compliance in respect to third party contact.
  • Perform work assignments as a highly competent Functional Safety engineer, requiring independent design, implementation and testing of the control software components
  • Work assignments primarily involve intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Controls / Computer Science or equivalent (Master’s preferred)
  • 8-10 years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for automotive electronics serial development projects (mandatory).
  • Working knowledge in structured engineering approach
  • Working knowledge in development of portable, reusable and modular software in automotive environment.
  • Experience in using a disciplined software development process based on ASPICE or CMMi process model
  • Working knowledge of configuration management (preferably PTC/MKS), project monitoring and control techniques
  • Troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Knowledge of structured problem solving (8D) methods and/or techniques
  • Able to work effectively in a global environment
  • Able to represent technical topics internally and externally
  • Self-motivation, tenacity, and determination are very useful in this position
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Team lead roles: team meetings, one-on-ones, priority assignments, mentor/coach as needed, manage the team tasks,…
  • Knowledge of MS Office package
  • Knowledge of analysis and engineering tools such as version control/configuration management
  • Working knowledge of CAN - based tools (such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape)
  • Knowledge of Medini Analyse is a plus

  • Office location is Troy , MI 
  • Some travel may be required to Customer mfg and other Magna locations (in US, Mexico, and Canada)
