Mission of the Position


The Advanced Engineering Project Manager is responsible for the global product management of driveline systems products throughout the innovation development cycle (from search field definition through product pre-development).  The role will be leading project-related communications and taking full program management ownership of related activities performed by multi-disciplined cross functional teams. Primary objectives are to manage timing, quality, and financial results of programs from start to finish, to excite the customer with the performance of the product, the advantages of the new development, and to deliver business results that meet the expectation for each assigned innovation projects.

Key Responsibilities


  • Create and present all innovation phase gate reviews to senior management to sell the development status and obtain future development funding.
  • Manage the process of test plan definition, review and update in close co-operation with engineering departments, the customer and external partners such as suppliers.
  • Manage the gathering, processing and tracking of evolving customer needs and requirements (MCAs) throughout the life of the product to establish the requirements baseline that serves as the basis for defining the required product definition.  Ensure that changes are managed, tracked and controlled.
  • Cohesively aligns with Global Product Managers, Product Engineering, and Global Innovation Group for feedback on products and features as well as competitive information within driveline systems.
  • Owns project management through complete innovation life cycle from search field investigation, ideation, project phase gates, supplier selection, component ordering and tracking, testing, & lessons learned utilizing the Magna Technology Life Cycle System (ITP).
  • Preparation and communication of project I-gate reviews to management steering committee and escalation of critical issues within the innovation group.
  • Coordinating / monitoring project documentation, timelines, technical performance, budget, production, quality deliverables, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Full program management ownership of program-related functional activities: quoting, purchasing, product engineering, quality, manufacturing / launch management, & finance/budget.
  • Ensure that all discovered problems are identified, analyzed, managed and controlled until resolution.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (TS 16949).
  • Maintains working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner

Requirements and Qualifications


  • Possess 5-10 years of program management experience with a verifiable record of results within the automotive industry along with a strong technical background that may include knowledge of electric drives, transfer cases, actuators, coupling systems, front/rear axle drives, power take-off units, rear drive modules and AWD/4x4 disconnect systems. 
  • Must have a good understanding of cross-functional responsibilities and their required deliverables. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must possess moderately advanced usage of Microsoft Office (Project, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint); must be/become proficient in company & customer systems.
  • Experience in electrification a plus, including knowledge of electric motors, inverters, and general e-drive principles.
  • Experience in prototype part development a plus.
  • Experience in CAD design in NX a plus.
  • Experience in design calculations, DOE, DFMEA, and DVP&R a plus
  • Great listening, open-mindedness, and strong interpersonal skills so that necessary alliances with internal & external groups can be forged and developed quickly.
  • A high energy candidate with a go-getter attitude.

Work Environment


Office environment; 10% travel required. 


While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes, and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
