Mission of the Position

 

The Project Manager, IT Tool Chain will be responsible for managing and maintaining the Tool and IT system portfolio, software licensing, IT tool initiatives/projects, and coordinate global efforts for functional managers and project teams for the Magna Powertrain Driveline Systems Group. The project manager will develop, maintain, and enhance the strategic vision and tool roadmap for the Driveline Systems global organization while coordinating efforts of IT, functional management and overall Magna Powertrain initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for managing the Tool and IT System Driveline Systems portfolio including:
    • Align IT project portfolio with all relevant stakeholder (Magna Powertrain Business Office and product groups, IT, etc.)
    • Track all Product Engineering relevant internal and external IT tool initiatives/projects, maintaining cost, timing and status
    • Reporting to Driveline Systems engineering management team
    • Initiate projects to adapt tools and systems to engineering processes
    • Drive harmonization of Driveline Systems – Product Engineering software tools and systems
    • Provide input to business plan to ensure proper funding of Driveline Systems engineering IT projects
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a strategic vision and tool roadmap in coordination with Magna IT, functional management and overall Magna Powertrain initiatives
  • Investigate, make recommendations, and advance introduction of new technologies to improve engineering efficiencies and productivity
  • Provide on-going global coordination to engineering functional managers and project teams
    • Review Product Engineering departmental tool demands
    • Maintain departmental and site software profiles
    • Support harmonization of software tools and systems
    • Provide first level software tool support for engineering (for selected IT tools/systems)
  • Be the focal point for software license maintenance providing
    • Software review and recommendations
    • Centralize software costs and budgets and consider OPEX and CAPEX in business plan
    • Develop optimized license strategies with IT and supplier
    • Provide essential software approval support
    • Lead IT tool initiatives/projects, e.g. roll-out of new IT system
  • Represent Driveline Systems – Product Engineering and align activities and strategy with:
    • Driveline Systems – Product Engineering and Magna Powertrain Process teams
    • Industry IT Suppliers
    • Magna Global IT
    • Global Engineering Business Office
    • OPEX Team
    • Magna Powertrain IT initiatives

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or related field required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Access (and/or programming languages) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and MS Project preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoSpice and/or CMMI preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and/or Application Lifecycle Management software (ALM) or similar required.
  • Familiarity with tools and techniques required to implement compliance projects through multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience deploying enterprise data management systems and software applications
  • Experience in IT portfolio management
  • Experience translating / capturing the relationship between engineering and IT 
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years related work experience.
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skill with the ability to work within deadlines but also be adaptable to change.
  • Experience working with/reporting out to senior management strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with different groups and facilitating a team atmosphere.

Work Environment

 

10-15% travel required.

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
