About the Role

Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the Electrical and Electronics (E/E) department, the Senior Engineer – EMC/Thermal Energy expert is responsible for leading E/E engineering activities related to design and development of the vehicle E/E system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers. 

Your Responsibilities

Technical Responsibility
Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering team
•    Responsible for E/E activities for multiple platforms from development to launch
•    Responsible for EMC and Thermal management for all E/E products Integration, testing & validation
•    Define EMC & Thermal requirements for HV/LV systems, HPC, ECUs, and other Modules
•    Perform complete EMC and thermal analysis of components, Sub-systems, and systems level
•    Develop comprehensive solutions for these systems and collaborate with multiple global teams
•    Provide design recommendations to appropriate teams (internal and external) 
•    Calculate heat dissipation for all EE components and systems, provide appropriate recommendations to the design teams (internal and external) for cooling systems
•    Work with suppliers, OEMs, other partners to mitigate or eliminate any thermal issues during design, development, testing, Validation and production phases
•    Make recommendations to select appropriate thermal materials for design optimization to minimize heat dissipation
•    Responsible for conducting EMC and thermal testing and validation for all EE items
•    Responsible for analyzing data, identifying issues and resolving these issues with partners
•    Define EMC targets for all E/E components. Define testing requirements and verify test results
•    Responsible for defining testing and validation scope related to EMC and Thermal management
•    Create and negotiate customer and technical requirements for all EMC and Thermal related items
•    Responsible for supplier identification, technical specifications, product design and release BOM
•    Responsible for developing calculations related to loads on HV and LV areas
•    Responsible for OEM and magna KPI targets and assure the targets are achievable 
•    Responsible for supporting multiple customers and programs simultaneously
•    Responsible for designs meeting market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, CNCA/GB, etc. 
•    Responsible for ensuring design meets all EMC requirements and regulations, IEC 61000-6-1, CISPR 25, ISO-11451, ISO 11452, ISO 7637, ISO-10605
•    Confirm Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is complete 
•    Confirm Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage cases 
•    Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase 
•    Lead design proposals with set-based engineering principles 
•    Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles 
•    Ensure team is equipped with training and tools required to accomplish their assigned tasks
 

Who we are looking for

Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting
Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
•    Support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones
•    Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
•    Support work development packages assigned to third parties
•    Confirm OEM and magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable
•    Confirm OEM and magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable
•    Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting 
•    Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sites
•    Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sites
•    Responsible for designing and meeting the serial production, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ttargets
•    Responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targets 
•    Support Technical Area (TA) core competencies and resolve issues in a timely manner
•    Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices 
•    Propose and lead advanced development topics supporting the GTA 
•    Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up tools, and processes 
•    Support complex problem solving with cross functional teams 

Project Related Interface 
Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration 
•    Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings 
•    Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
•    Collaborate with the Design Studio to assure product appearance harmony
•    Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
•    Collaborate with the Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice sharing
•    Collaborate with the other project GTAs
  
Employee Related Tasks
Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
•    Ensure cooperation with project management
•    Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area
•    Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
•    Ensure training of employees according to the required skills
•    Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
•    Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members

•    Education - BSEE 
•    10+ Years of experience in electronic module development or integration in OEM or Tier1 supplier
•    10+ Years of experience in EMC, Thermal management with OEM or Tier1 supplier 
•    5+ Years of experience in integration of LV/HV E/E devices at systems and sub-system level
•    Experience in design, release and testing of E/E components and assemblies (e.g., BCM, ACM, Fuses, Relays, other ECUs) and associated brackets, fasteners, or retention mechanisms
•    Experience working and collaborating with Global team (Germany, Europe) is required
•    Experience in thermal analysis and simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD)
•    Experience in vehicle development and launching a complete vehicle preferred
•    Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•    Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
•    Six Sigma certification preferred
•    Thermal management experience with HV Battery / HPC (High Performance Computing) is preferred
•    Professional Communication skills (written and verbal) 
•    Experience in Electric Vehicle (EV) development preferred 
•    Experience with wire harness and connector development preferred
•    Understanding of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) ASIL Risk Classes and safety goals preferred
•    Involve in all steps of system design V-cycle MSDS vehicle development process
•    Familiar with latest regulatory requirements as it relates to EMC and Thermal management
