About the Role

Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the Electrical and Electronics (E/E) department, the Resident Engineer is responsible for leading E/E engineering activities related to design and development of the vehicle E/E system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers. 

Your Responsibilities

Technical Responsibility
Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering team
•    Responsible for E/E activities for multiple platforms from development to launch
•    Responsible for supporting customer onsite for product development, Integration, testing & validation
•    Responsible for all communications with OEM, suppliers, internal global teams
•    Provide systems engineering support to OEM (onsite), suppliers to ensure product timing, release of SW/HW and quality targets are met
•    Align proto build timing, resources, support from global teams to meet customer (OEM) needs
•    Lead meeting and workshops with OEM, Suppliers, and third parties 
•    Manage issues matrix with OEM and other partners and coordinate with internal team to ensure issues are getting resolved in a timely and priority manner
•    Support different build phases at plants to ensure there are sufficient support from respective teams
•    Support development, calibration, testing and validation activities with suppliers and OEM
•    Support vehicle instrumentation, proto builds, data collection, and coordinate activities with internal teams to support customers
•    Identify and raise issues to Magna Steyr (MS) management related to cost, timing and quality during the development, testing, Validation, proto builds, and production
•    Responsible for releasing SW/HW part numbers with OEM related to current products
•    Support other activities related to future business opportunities
•    Be familiar with program requirements, negotiate requirements with OEM, and suppliers
•    Responsible for raising any foreseeable issues and concerns to Magna Steyr (MS) management
•    Provide design recommendations to appropriate teams (internal and external) 
•    Work with suppliers, OEMs, other partners to mitigate or eliminate any issues during design, development, testing, Validation, and production phases
•    Responsible for supplier identification, technical specifications, product design and release BOM
•    Responsible for supporting multiple customers and programs simultaneously
•    Confirm Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) is complete 
•    Confirm Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) is complete
•    Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles 
•    Involve in all steps of system design V-cycle MSDS vehicle development process
 

Who we are looking for

Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting
Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems
•    Support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones
•    Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
•    Support work development packages assigned to third parties
•    Confirm OEM and magna project cost, timing and performance targets and assure the targets are achievable
•    Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting 
•    Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sites
•    Responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sites
•    Responsible for designing and meeting the serial production, First Time Quality (FTQ) and targets
•    Support Technical Area (TA) core competencies and resolve issues in a timely manner
•    Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices 
•    Propose and lead advanced development topics supporting the GTA 
•    Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up tools, and processes 

Project Related Interface 
Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration 
•    Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings 
•    Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
•    Collaborate with the Design Studio to assure product appearance harmony
•    Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
•    Collaborate with the Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice sharing
•    Collaborate with the other project GTAs
  
Employee Related Tasks
Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
•    Ensure cooperation with project management
•    Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area
•    Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
•    Ensure training of employees according to the required skills
•    Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
•    Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members 
•    Support complex problem solving with cross functional teams

•    Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase 
•    Lead design proposals with set-based engineering principles 
•    Ability to work independently and with a global internal and external teams
•    Ability to work in highly leveraged, cross functional teams, suppliers, and OEMs
•    Education - BSEE / BSME 
•    10+ Years of experience in E/E domain integration, vehicle development in OEM or Tier1 supplier
•    10+ Years of experience as a resident engineer working with US or European OEMs is required
•    5+ Years of experience working as a resident engineer onsite at Global OEM
•    Experience in design, release and testing of E/E components and assemblies (e.g., BCM, ACM, Fuses, Relays, other ECUs) and associated brackets, fasteners, or retention mechanisms
•    Experience working and collaborating with Global team (Germany, Europe) is required
•    Experience in leading customer meetings and issues management is highly desirable
•    Experience in vehicle development and launching a complete vehicle preferred
•    Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•    Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
•    Six Sigma certification preferred
•    Professional Communication skills (written and verbal) 
•    Experience in Electric Vehicle (EV) development preferred 
•    Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
•    May require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 15% domestic + international
