Role Summary

The Sr. Research Engineer will work on technology projects within the R&D team, supporting technical evaluation of the technologies, such as sensors, actuators and control electronics for the vehicle of the future; they will develop H/W architecture, engage in research related to key technologies; they will perform deep scientific research, application analysis, manufacturability, market and cost factors related to AD/ADAS technology; they will contribute to the team’s effort by providing innovative ideas for products and processes. 

Key Responsibilities

•    Plan, execute and coordinate R&D projects for/with internal and external R&D departments, supplier companies, institutions and academia.
•    Research latest advances in sensors, optoelectronics, and other technologies. 
•    Work with ECAD tools to develop prototype hardware of sensors and controls. 
•    Lead, document and present advances of the projects.
•    Evaluate technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements.
•    Support the development of innovative components or modules from initial concept through full development.
•    Design, simulate and test circuits of Proof of Concept systems (p.e. LIDAR, surround view camera, multi sensor camera, radar, etc.).
•    Support SW architecture definition from hardware perspective.
 

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Product development experience in Sensing, Camera or Lidar Systems.
•    Understanding of project initiation and execution including technical and business aspects.
•    Strong knowledge and preferably hands-on experience in at least several of the following fields. As a minimum, the candidate should at least be able to converse with an expert in the respective fields:
o    Understanding of automotive sensors and systems such as cameras, radars, lidars, positioning solutions and compute platforms.
o    Knowledge of analog and power electronics, process for schematics design, board layout and manufacturing process for prototyping and series production.
o    Understanding of processor architectures, like GPU, DSP cores, etc.
o    Experience or basic knowledge related to FPGA, ASIC or VHDL.
o    Understanding of design and manufacturing of the silicon devices.
o    Knowledge of automotive bus systems like CAN, automotive Ethernet and wireless connectivity.
•    Capable to design or coordinate schematics and board design with ECAD programs. 
•    Understanding of embedded hardware development from small micro controllers to high-end embedded devices.
•    Able to cover the main aspects of an entire electronic circuit, from power supply to high speed interfaces.
•    Familiarity with fundamentals of automotive electronics quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
•    General understanding of functional safety from a hardware and software development perspective.
•    Awareness of global trends related to automotive sensors field.
 

Additional Information

•    An MS degree or higher in either Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science with focus on Hardware.
•    An ideal candidate would have experience in the design, development, or integration of cutting-edge automotive electronics.
•    Deep technical expertise in an automotive electronics quality, reliability, and manufacturability, related to autonomous systems is preferred.
•    5+ years of recent experience working on actual product development either as researcher, technical lead, product /system architect or a developer.
•    Strong technical and analytical competence in select areas of technology and research.
•    Self starter with a “can do” get the job done personality.
•    Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
