The Program Summary

 

We hire students for full time (40 hour/week) intern positions where you will work alongside an engineer, who many times, has been through our student program themselves! At the end of your term, you will know what it is like to be an Engineer in our organization. You will have the opportunity to interview with and work in one of our many departments who handle vehicle programs from initial concept to launch in our North American design center. 

 

Magna Powertrain’s Student Program is a full-time internship & co-op program dedicated to promoting the automotive industry through real-world experience at Magna. The program is inclusive of all talent, but primarily focused on engineering groups. 

 

As a student in our program, you can expect to gain hands-on engineering experience, network with a variety of leaders and employees throughout the organization, meet students from other universities across the US, participate in student meetings, partake in technical training offered to all employees, and work on special department led projects. We are Seeking:

 

Product Design Engineering Student - Modification of new and existing driveline products focusing on technical requirements, serial development, computer-based software, and communication.
Product Concepts Engineering Student - Product road mapping, product design and benchmarking for all North America driveline products.      
Product Line Engineering Student - Focused on assisting the product line team (4WD and AWD systems) with data research, comparative analysis, strategy development, and communication.
CAE Engineering Student – Systematic use of simulation early in the design process to prevent failure mode developing/maintaining and overseeing of CAE plans.
Vehicle Verification Engineering Student – Vehicle calibration, testing, and system support. Focused on software definition/calibration and data collection/analysis.
Mechatronic Systems Engineering Student - System integration specifically focused on the software and electrical components of the system (Mechanical majors could be considered with a mechatronics background).
Electrical Hardware Engineering Student - Oversee the design and release of electronic components; specifically focused on the electrical hardware design of the ECU, actuators, and sensors.
Base Software Engineering Student - Development of embedded software in C, and integration of electrical hardware and software.
Application Software Engineering Student - Development of controls software. Model based programming in Simulink, algorithm design, and translating functional requirements into software.
Software and HIL Test Engineering Student - Software testing in a simulated environment to test customer requirements and find bugs in the software.
Cyber Security Engineering Student - Design and development of validation documentation, software, SIL models, HIL Models, test scripts and components. Focused on development of security requirement and design validation methodologies (DVM) at component, sub-system, and system levels.
Advanced Engineering Student - Focused on developing, designing, and testing new innovative technology within driveline systems.
Systems Engineering Student, Electrification – Focused on design and development of eDrive architecture and system modeling to characterize both thermal attributes of an electrical dive system.  
eMotors Design Engineering Student - Focused on the design, development, analysis, and testing of electric motors for electric traction drives (voltages < 1000V, I < 750A) for eDrive applications.
Software and Inverter Engineering Student - Detailed design and development for the power electronics and/or the related software, based on area of interest.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Enrolled in an engineering program with an accredited school.
  • Understand the basics of engineering theory and principles of design.
  • Knowledge in computer-based software, strong organizational/communication skills, and ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • MUST be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
