About the Role

Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. As the technical lead in the Powertrain (PWT) discipline the Technical Manager is responsible to lead the engineering team activities relating to the design and development of the vehicle PWT and Thermal system as well as mentor team members to strengthen team capability. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers. 

Your Responsibilities

Technical Responsibility
Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and lead in the capability growth of the engineering team
•    Support and develop Technical Area (TA) core competencies 
•    Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices
•    Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase
•    Propose and lead advanced development topics within the GTA
•    Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools, and processes
•    Lead design proposals with set-based engineering principles
•    Lead designs with 6 Sigma design principles
•    Lead complex problem solving with cross functional teams
•    Lead the design and development discipline in Powertrain technologies
•    Lead in the design and development of Thermal Systems
 

Who we are looking for

Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting
Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more projects
•    Lead and support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones
•    Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development
•    Be responsible for work development packages assigned to third parties
•    Confirm OEM and magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable
•    Confirm OEM and magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable
•    Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting 
•    Be responsible for the release of Computer Aided Design (CAD) data into internal and external sites
•    Be responsible for the release of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), simulations and studies into internal or external sites
•    Be responsible for designs capable of meeting the serial production tact, First Time Quality (FTQ) and ergo targets
•    Be responsible for designs meeting the project performance and cost targets 
•    Be responsible for designs meeting market region regulations, FMVSS, ECE, CNCA/GB, etc.
•    Confirm the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is complete
•    Confirm the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage cases
•    Manage project TA according to the agreed head count, budget, and outside service or support plan

Project Related Interface 
Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration 
•    Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings 
•    Lead face to face development within Magna and with the customers (“matched pairs”)
•    Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
•    Collaborate with the design studio to assure product appearance harmony
•    Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
•    Collaborate with the Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice sharing
•    Collaborate with the other project GTAs
  
Employee Related Tasks
Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
•    Ensure cooperation with project management
•    Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area
•    Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
•    Ensure training of employees according to the required skills
•    Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
•    Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members

•    Must have a positive “can do” attitude
•    Must be flexible and able to course correct paths according to priority alignment
•    Education– BSME, MSME or MSIE preferred 
•    Experience - 10+ years Electric Vehicle (EV/PWT) development, 15years ICE/EV/PWT preferred
•    Experience in ISO 26262 / ASIL Risk Class / FuSA 
•    Experience in Advanced Driver-assistance Systems (ADAS)
•    Experience in complete vehicle development and manufacture 
•    Experience supervising or managing technical personnel
•    Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams
•    Experience in launching a complete vehicle
•    Experience in design release and testing of components and assemblies
•    Proficient computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•    Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred
•    Six Sigma certification preferred
•    Professional communication skills (written and verbal) 
•    Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
•    May require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 15% domestic + international
