Technical Specialist - E/E Architecture

Position Overview

The Technical Specialist - E/E Architecture position involves developing and implementing functional E/E architecture for vehicle systems developed within Magna’s Corporate R&D organization. Individual will be responsible to work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team developing new technologies focused on electrification and new mobility.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work across multiple vehicle E/E domains involving electrification, new mobility and autonomy.
  • Utilize systems engineering principles to define and develop a robust functional architecture for vehicle electrical systems (powertrain, Energy storage system, chassis, HMI, connectivity, advance driver assistance systems etc.)
  • Develop integration strategy and CAN architecture for vehicle electrical systems
  • Derive requirements for systems and allocate to hardware, software, sensors, and actuators.
  • Responsible for developing and cascading of specifications from overall system to component level.
  • Support engineers to create and validate electronic, electrical system simulation, thermal and network simulation as well as mechanical models of various subsystems
  • Define and design vehicle topology and electrical / electronic schematics

 

QUALIFICATION

  • 10+ years of experience at an OEM or Tier 1.

 

EDUCATION/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related degree. Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Proven knowledge and expertise automotive electrical and electronics systems.
  • Experience or understanding of CAN, Ethernet, and LIN, ECU development, Pin out, Electrical Schematic, Diagnosis, SW development and AutoSAR
  • A wide range of experience with basic project management, systems engineering, functional safety and cyber security will be considered a plus
  • Fundamental understanding of embedded systems and process standards, e.g. AutomotiveSpice
  • Experience with architecture design tools, requirements management tools as well as rapid prototyping and simulation tools and equipment
  • Experience with automotive application software development tools like Matlab, Simulink, dSPACE MABX etc.
  • Experience with using Vector CAN tools (CANanalyzer, CANape etc.) for data logging and debugging issues
  • Familiarity with requirements definition, the V development cycle and Agile development
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, sensors, actuators and ECUs
  • Direct experience in vehicle-level controls design for electric and/or hybrid vehicles. (i.e. torque control, battery management, charging systems, etc.). OEM and/or Tier 1 experience is a must.
  • Experience in developing vehicle and powertrain control algorithms.
  • Understand worldwide regulations and their architectural design impact
  • Experience in electric vehicle systems incl high-voltage systems, cloud-based services and application will be considered a plus
  • Experience in multiplexed communication system design including managing signal dictionaries, diagnostics and optimization.
  • Experience in functional design and software development methods in automotive, aerospace or similar domains using formal (UML) or informal methods.
  • Experience in design and analysis of electrical distribution systems for Automotive, Avionics or complex Machinery.
  • Experience in EE architecture or advanced platform design and optimization including measuring performance against requirements and developing trade studies.

 

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Strong in fundamental engineering and analytical methods.
  • Technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct and control specific projects.
  • Understanding and comfortable with the entire scope of project initiation and execution including technical and business aspects.
  • Aware of global trends related to automotive field in general.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Power Point)

 

Physical Demands / Work Environment:                                

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
