Key Responsibilities

  • Lead research and development in robotic vision & tactile perception domains for industrialization of vision guided robotic system or Industry 4.0 related topics. 
  • Lead the technical review and maintain the relationships with university or industrial partners to jointly conduct the research and development.  
  • Demonstrate sustained innovation and creativity leading to project accomplishments without direct technical supervision
  • Stay on top of technology trends in robotic vision & tactile perception domains to drive the innovation. 
  • Responsible for setting the technical direction and providing innovative ideas in technology and product development and evaluation. 
  • Maintain and implement the short- and long-term development and technology roadmap
  • Determine the product specification for building a new technology, functionality, or product.
  • Develop proof of concept and prototype to demonstrate the technology readiness.     
  • Work with multiple stakeholders to understand system and/or subsystem requirements, functionality, domain, viable technology, and development activities for advanced robotic system development projects
  • Support the development of innovative technologies and manufacturing systems from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case.
  • Perform any other assignments, from time-to-time, as management directs.

 

Qualifications:

  • PHD/MS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science (Engineering) with minimum 3 - 5 years working experience in applied research in the areas of Vision & tactile perception, advanced Robotics, AI/ML, SLAM
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in ROS, Python and C++ development. 
  • Proficiency in data acquisition and the debugging of hardware-software systems
  • Deep knowledge in computer vision, 3D geometry and/or image processing.
  • Experience in the testing and implementation of tactile sensor technology.
  • Experience in acquiring and processing multimodal sensor data (computer vision, tactile, proprioceptive)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply extensive and advanced principles, theories, and concepts to the development of solutions to complex problems that require innovation and ingenuity.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize new science and technologies relevant within existing trends and business strategy and extend them into new applications.
  • Demonstrated technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct, and control specific projects.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and ability to make a case with data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 

Additional Information

  • Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety Act as well as any rules or standards otherwise specified by OSHA or MIOSHA or any other government regulations. Expected to exercise caution in all work activities and report any unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Domestic and international travel will be required up to 20% of the time.

Major Responsibilities

Knowledge and Education

  • Ph.D or Master's of Science degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science (Engineering) 

Work Experience

  • 5+ years working experience in applied research in the areas of Vision & Tactile Perception, Advanced Robotics, AI/ML, SLAM
  • Experience in the testing and implementation of tactile sensor technology.
  • Experience in acquiring and processing multimodal sensor data (computer vision, tactile, proprioceptive)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply extensive and advanced principles, theories, and concepts to the development of solutions to complex problems that require innovation and ingenuity.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize new science and technologies relevant within existing trends and business strategy, and extend them into new applications.
  • Demonstrated technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct, and control specific projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
