Job Summary:

The Buyer will be responsible for Purchasing materials, supplies and services.

  • Manage and monitor operations supplier issues in line with Group Purchasing Strategy, to support and improve Quality, Cost and Delivery performance.
  • Locate new sources of supply, participate in supplier development and maintain Purchase Orders with existing suppliers.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop supplier RFQ packages, solicit quotes, and analyze supplier quote submissions for materials, supplies and services.
  • Evaluate cost factors for new quotes and engineering changes to existing items.  Understanding of direct material supplier Price breakdowns and total landed cost is mandatory; contribution margin, cycle times, material costs, mark ups, etc.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with supply base.  Conduct regular Supplier on site visits and evaluations. Identify and proactively manage risk (i.e. timing, cost, bankruptcy, etc.). which includes monitoring and assisting supplier improvement plans
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that sourced suppliers achieve a high level of performance for delivery, quality, reliability and low cost consistency.
  • Define opportunities for supplier cost reductions and work with suppliers to implement cost reductions in their facilities
  • Update all relevant supplier Purchase Orders and parts information
  • Execute supply agreements consistent with Magna group sourcing strategy with approved sources
  • Establish and maintain Commodity Source Plan for assigned commodities
  • Participate in divisional Trade Compliance (import/export) activities as Purchasing representative
  • Assist the Materials team with the procurement of direct materials in short and critical supply
  • Performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Education/Special Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of work experience and education



  • Minimum 5 years of automotive experience in related purchasing, materials or engineering procurement fields
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing cost models
  • Strong background in negotiations and establishing/maintaining business relationships
  • Proven ability of positive customer interface
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
