Role Summary

The Tooling Engineer (Stamping), using their expertise as an experienced Certified Toolmaker, supports the introduction of new products and programs by managing the design and quotation stages of the tooling process.  Once a program or product is in the production stage this role involves monitoring and supporting the production process to ensure that the required quality and production levels are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates activities of tooling design and purchasing (in conjunction with Purchasing Team) to facilitate production and procurement of all production tooling.
  • Determines most cost-effective manufacturing process while following current tooling standards.
  • Assists in quotation, blank layouts, and models for all die tooling.
  • Lead customer contact for planning and execution of production tooling on new programs, visiting customers when required as company representative.
  • Prepares initial inspection of tooling for specific programs and or processes.
  • Active participant in APQP, and uses prescribed systems to maintain program timing and track tooling progress
  • Process customer requests for production tooling engineering changes and/or internal process improvements.
  • Takes part or heads team-oriented improvement activities such as VA/VE.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Certified Tool and Die Maker preferred
  • 10 plus years of experience in the automotive industry
  • Must have customer specific knowledge (Ford, GM, DCX, Honda)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), knowledge of CAD applications an asset
  • Good command of the English language both verbal and written,
  • Must be able to work in a strict confidential environment.
